Spending a couple hundred dollars on some fancy Fluro ski wax doesn't do you a lot of good if you don't know how to apply that wax to your skis. Also, it seems like every year somebody's got a new product or technique that shaves a couple minutes off your Birkie time (everyone's goal). In preparation for the 2010 City of Lakes Loppet, Frank prepared my skis with some Fast Wax that gave me glide that was almost too fast for the race. It's almost a little easier to ski if you're right in the middle of the pack with everyone instead of flying by them on every downhill (only to be repeatedly passed on every uphill...maybe it was just gravity at work). But actually, in the end it seemed that wax was even more important than fitness as after a while people you glide past just don't keep catching up with you later on. So reference this video as you're out there preparing your skis and good luck in your races!
