Run Event Profile: Get In Gear

The Get In Gear is a right of passage every spring time. Every year, a couple thousand runners brave the course of the Get in Gear in what for many kicks off the running event season.

The Get In Gear starts and finishes in the heart of South Minneapolis at the well known Minnehaha Falls Park. This is an ideal venue with great access to rest rooms, public transportation, and of course beautiful roads and trails to run on going in all directions!

The thing that most impresses me about this race is that it feels like a small town race, yet there are roughly 2000 entrants most years. Perhaps this is what sets apart the big races from the big races that are fun to do!

The day gets started early with a 2k kids race at 8AM, the 10k & Half Marathon at 9AM, and finally the 5k starting at 9:20. Pre-Registration is a good idea for this event to save on some cash and waiting in registration line. As a luxury, you can pick up your pre-registration bib the night before the race.

There is the full gamut of runners showing up for this, from the super fast distance runners doing the half as training for the national marathon circuit to the first timer. Most pertinently, you'll see plenty of Cyclova XC folks out there!

As you're figuring out your running events for the season, remember to check out the Cyclova XC events calendar. There we feature only the best events of the Midwest, only races that Cyclova XC members have been to and would recommend.

The elite half marathoners off to a fast start in 2009!
