2015 Winter/Spring Adventure & Tech Social Series Schedule

Join the fun: socialize with outdoor enthusiasts, see presentations by fellow adventurists, and learn tips and tricks of the pros at Cyclova XC's Adventure & Tech Social Nights!

We're excited to announce the return of our Winter/Spring Adventure and Tech Social Series! This year's line-up is absolutely stellar and is sure to please adventure lovers of all genres. Attendees can expect to hear colossal adventure stories, view slide shows and videos on our big screen, learn about a tech topic from an industry expert, and connect with local people that share a passion for outdoor adventure! As always, these events are FREE and are open for anyone to attend!

6 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2015 - Birkie Tips & Tricks:
Adventure:  Ben Jonjak, co-owner of Cyclova XC, and Birkie Warrior will share his favorite nuggets of wisdom as a seasoned Birkie veteran. Ben will entertain the masses with his humor and is sure to spread Birkie Fever! Prepare for tales of traditions, conditions, mishaps and victories that will inspire you to sign up for your very own Birkie race!

Tech: Frank Lundeen, co-owner of Cyclova XC, will reveal the much anticipated 2015 Birkie race wax recommendations and demonstrate glide wax application methods that will improve your ski speed and race results. Learn how to maximize the time and money spent waxing your skis. There will be plenty of time for Q & A as well! Just in time to ski your best Birkie ever! 

6 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015 - Paddling Adventures and Fat Bike Evolution and Tech:   
Adventure: Duane Lee presents "Following John Muir: Paddling the Stikine River."  This is a short film on Duane's 2014 paddling adventure that covered 200 miles of the Stikine River, departing from Northern British Columbia and ending in Wrangell, Alaska. The Stikine River is one of the last truly wild rivers of North America. The glacial-lined gorges of the lower Stikine have been likened to "100 miles of Yosemite" by John Muir, one of America's most influential naturalists. Don't miss out out on this epic adventure tale of Cyclova XC's very own Duane Lee!

Tech: Frank Lundeen, co-owner of Cyclova XC, discusses the fat bike industry's rapidly changing capabilities and technologies. He'll give an overview of the history of fat biking, tech tips, and introduce you to the cycling gear that has been a total game-changer for harsh winters in the Midwest. They say "Fatter is Funner"- come find out why!

6 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 - Enduro-racing and Health for Athletes:
Adventure:  Lisa Thompson, endurance athlete & Undead Hall of Famer, presents highlights of her experiences in two consecutive endurance races. Lisa is known for completing some of the regions toughest endurance events. Most recently she gritted out a 12 hour mountain bike race followed by 12 hour trail run in North Dakota, riding more than 100 miles and running over 50 miles!

Tech: Dr. Steve Edling will give an overview of nutrition and training tips for athletes of all disciplines and will equip you with the tools to remain healthy and injury-free for your big race! He'll discuss current data on protein versus carbohydrates for training and how food is the foundation for your performance and health.

6 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015 - Tour the Great Lakes and Bike Packing Simplified:
Adventure:  Amy Middleton and Frank Lundeen give presentations to include slide shows of Amy's 100 day, 1000 mile kayak journey on Lakes Superior, Huron and Michigan, followed by Frank's 11 day, 1200 mile bike packing trip around Lake Superior.

Tech: Frank Lundeen demonstrates how to prepare for bike packing and touring. Learn what you need to carry, best methods of packing, and the gear tips and tricks that are sure to maximize your journey's efficiency and enjoyment!
