CyclovaXC Welcomes Two Additional Owners

CyclovaXC is pleased to announce that local athletes and silent sport advocates Jim Kelley and Steve Clark have come on as owners of the business. Founders Frank Lundeen and Ben Jonjak are still very much involved and committed to maintaining the truly wonderful community of CyclovaXC athletes and friends.

We feel very fortunate to bring two such highly accomplished individuals in to help continue realizing and expanding our vision. Jim and Steve have exciting new perspectives and new ideas, and it will be amazing to watch the effects of their influence in the coming months.

Most of you know Jim and Steve already as they have been participating in our events and wearing CyclovaXC colors for several years. But here is a brief bio on each of them so that you might become better acquainted.

Jim Kelley
Jim is a native of southern New England and began his endurance sports career at Taconic High School in Pittsfield, Mass. He attended the University of Maine where he earned a degree in wildlife biology and lettered in cross country. Jim completed a Master’s in wildlife and took a job as a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Maryland. A love of cross-country skiing caused him to sign up for the Birkie in 1997, and for his first 3 Birkies he would drive from Maryland, get on snow for a day or two, race the Birkie, and then drive back home. Jim fell in love with northwest Wisconsin on his Birkie trips and moved to Centuria in 1999. Jim is a ten-time Boston Marathon qualifier with a PR of 2:51. Jim got into triathlons in 2005 and has qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships twice. A shoulder injury in 2014 prompted him to take up ultra-marathon trail races with the goal of running the Western States 100, Hardrock 100, and the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in the next few years. The emphasis on the ultra-marathons means Jim is excited to help put the “run” back into Cyclova. The 2018 Birkie will be Jim’s 20th. Jim is also a USA Triathlon and Ironman Certified Coach and is working on his USA Track and Field distance running and USSA Nordic coaching certifications. His coaching company PR-Endurance helps endurance athletes from across the country to achieve their goals. Jim has dreamed of owning a ski/bike shop for nearly 25 years and joining the Cyclova ownership group is truly a dream come true.

Steve Clark
Steve Clark has been rather crazy about bicycling since the 4th grade and a year 'round cyclist since 6th grade when he took a job as paperboy to pay for his cycling habit.  For the last three years he worked for the League of American Bicyclists traveling around the country helping cities become more bicycle friendly -- providing assessments, workshops and specific solutions.  Prior to joining the League, he was the Walking and Bicycling Program Manager for Transit for Livable Communities, a non-profit based in Minnesota and long before that he was the northern field coordinator for the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. He has also been a bike/ski shop owner (Wild Country Bikes & Skis in Balsam Lake around the time Frank Lundeen was just being born), newspaper editor, BikeFarm camp director, and counselor.  He is a past president of the League of American Bicyclists, co-founder of the Minnesota Coalition of Bicyclists, former Director of the Minnesota Pedal Power Camp and was the first Bike/Pedestrian Program Manager for the City of Boulder, Colorado. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Sociology. When Steve is not bicycling or selling bikes or fixing bikes he is either milking goats on his farm or doing trail running.  When there is snow he can be found on the XC trails getting ready for the Birkebeiner. In August he will be competing for Team USA in the World Championship Standard distance Duathlon.  Steve's goal for his 60th year of life is to obtain personal records (PRs) in ten running events, from one mile to 50 miles.

On behalf of the whole Cyclova community, we’d like to welcome Jim and Steve. We look forward to all the new adventures we’ll be having together in the upcoming years. Be sure to stop by and congratulate Jim and Steve on their new commitment to CyclovaXC!
