5 Years of Solstice Chase

These last few weeks leading up to the Solstice Chase are always a mad scramble, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Everything is coming together nicely and we'll be excited to see all the chasers for another great, epic, magnificent event!

It's hard to believe that this will be the 5th running of the Solstice Chase! 5 years is a pretty massive achievement, and we'd like to thank all you crazy racers for coming back year after year.

Our first event was held on the eve of fat bike racing as a major deal. I remember when Frank first brought fat bikes in to Cyclova and I didn't know quite what to think of them. People used to stop and stare at the display model we had in the window. "What is that bike for?" Now, fat bikes are everywhere!

Our first race saw a massive snowfall that made for an incredibly difficult day. Most of our racers had to drop out of the two lap race. I was announcing, and I remember how many of the riders who did manage to finish were only able to do so after letting almost all the air out of their tires. They'd come rolling across the finish line bouncing up and down on a near flat. Although it was day of off the charts difficulty, you could tell the racers were having a blast and we were at the start of a new movement in cycling.

The next two years were fast with minimal snow cover, then came the blizzard of 2016 which almost rivaled year one. The way the forecast looks, we might have another fast, dirt course, but this is Wisconsin so you never know!

There are still spaces remaining, so if you haven't signed up yet, please do so! Spread the word, get your friends in. The Great Lakes Fat Bike Series starts in St. Croix Falls and you don't want to miss it.
