“The Amazon River International Raft Race” added to CyclovaXCs Adventure Talks!

If ever you were curious what it might be like to build your own raft and then explore the longest river in the world, you won't want to miss Kirk Jacobson's talk on Tuesday, March 20th at Cyclova XC!

Kirk will share his experience competing in the Amazon River International Raft Race (or "Carrera Internacional de Balsas"). He'll not only speak on the building of his raft with his teammates and the brutal three day raft race that followed, but also talk about the more relaxing time spent exploring the Amazon Basin at a lodge farther downriver.

The 180 kilometer Amazon River Raft Race is the longest rafting competition on the planet and has competing teams from all over the world. Combine that with the fact that the Amazon has a diversity of life unequalled anywhere on Earth, and you have what unquestioningly can only be called an epic adventure!

Kirk grew up in northern Wisconsin and graduated from high school in Prentice, college in Beloit, medical school in Madison, and surgery training in Detroit before coming the St. Croix River Valley where he worked as a surgern from 1990 to 2000 in St. Croix Falls  and in Hudson from 2000 to 2015. Now semiretired, Kirk has more time for adventures (recently coming back from Nepal!) and remains active with Wisconsin-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team including recent deployment to Puerto Rico.

Kirk has varied interests including running, biking, swimming (and triathlons), alpine and Nordic skiing, kayaking, martial arts, travel, and photography. At age 60, Kirk just recently registered for the Afton Trail Ultramarathon 50 km event which will be his first ultramarathon experience.

Kirk's presentation will be held at the Cyclova XC store at 112 N. Washington in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin on Tuesday, March 20th from 6:30 - 8 pm.  The public is invited and like all of Cyclova XC's adventure talks, there is no charge.
